I'm Number 8569!

runDisney posted the link yesterday for the 2012 Disneyland Half Marathon waiver and bib numbers!  I am runner number 8569.  As the race gets closer, I get more and more excited.  What is there not to get excited about really?  I get to fly out to one of my favorite places in the world, Southern California, and have a girls weekend with my friends Danielle and Chelsea.  We get to spend a wonderful weekend at Disney's Paradise Pier hotel, check out the new Cars land in California Adventure park, party in Disneyland and run the Disneyland Half Marathon!

I am eagerly waiting for the Disneyland Half Marathon Expo.  I will be working a shift at the SparkleSkirts booth.  Not sure the times yet, I will keep you posted.  Lots of us runDisney enthusiasts are hoping that runDisney will unveil the medals for the 20th anniversary Disney World Marathon and the Disney Princess Half Marathon.  If that happens, I will be sure to let you know right away!

On another note, my runs this week have been tough.  The heat and humidity are slowing me down a bit.  I have also been getting awful side stitches. Prior to this week, I had not gotten a side stitch in like a year.  My mission this week will be to figure out why it is happening and make it stop!

My eating this past week has been mostly clean.  Since the first half of July was so, well not clean, it feels really good to be sticking to a clean eating plan.

My goals this week are to follow my clean eating plan and to stick to my half marathon training plan.  What are your goals for this week?

A dream is a wish...

  1. I just bought Kara Goucher's "Running for Women" and she had a bit on side stitches in it:

A side stitch is a cramp, usually on your right side. Stitches are common among new runners but rare among veterans. Several possible causes include muscle spasms, lack of oxygen to the GI muscles, internal organs pulling down on the diaphragm muscle and so on. More to the point, it hurts and it's hard to run through it. Two methods of combating stitches are (1) exhale forcefully while bending over at the waist (admittedly not pretty) and (2) press your fingers into the painful area. A third method probably works best of all: stop and walk until the stitch goes away. Many new runners find if they avoid eating any solid food just before a run, they get stitches less frequently."

    Hope that helps!

  3. Thanks for the link! How did you find it? Maybe I'm just being an airhead, but I didn't get an email and I can't find it on the site! Doh!

I ca not wait for Disneyland Half. It was my favorite race until I ran Tinkerbell. Best of luck!

Side stitches: I rarely get them anymore, but when I do, I think it's because my breathing is too shallow. I tend to be a bit of a stress case and sometimes when I run, I forget to breathe deeply.

  4. Enjoy the DL half! My Mom promised we'd go next year so I can finally get my C2C after Princess and Donald next year.

  5. Wow, they got those waivers out early! Lately, it seems like they've been waiting until around 2 weeks prior to the race to get them out...which makes me crazy because I am NOT patient! Good luck at DL! I did it last year to complete my C2C for 2011 and my BF has done it 3 years in a row...sadly, we're skipping it this year to instead do the Tower of Terror 10 miler & Food and Wine Festival at the end of that month, since they moved the Wine & Dine half to the last weekend of the festival (BOOOOO!). Do you have plans to run Tinker Bell at DL? I liked the course for Tink MUCH better than the DL half personally...but running through Angel Stadium during the DL half is fun...and not included in the Tink course!
