Disney Princess Half Marathon 2013 is Open!

Today registration opened for the 2013 Disney Princess Half Marathon!  Did you register?  I did!

2012 Princess Half Marathon
When you register for the race, they ask you a question about your favorite Disney Princess.  I chose Cinderella this year after my blog name, plus I really love her.  Last year, I chose Belle.  She is my all time favorite princess!  Lots of princess runners choose their princess by the color bib they want.  That is really all runDisney uses the choice for.  With Belle, my bib was yellow.  Choosing Cinderella will get me a light blue bib.  Rapunzel will get you a purple bib, Snow White will get you a red bib, Sleeping Beauty will get you a pink bib, and Ariel will get you a green bib. Jasmine had a teal bib.  Which princess did you chose?

With this being the 5th anniversary, lots of speculation is going on about what the theme will be and what the medal will look like.  A few theories about the theme are:

1)  Jasmine will be the featured princess.  This theory is mostly because of the ads that have been running is Runner's World.  They feature Jasmine and  Aladdin.  I am not so sure about this theory.  All of the ads that ran last year for Princess 2013 featured a Princess and the Frog theme, while the race had a Tangled theme. So, the ads do not necessarily correspond with race theme.

2)  The next theme is the obvious--Brave.  It is the newest Disney movie and Merida is the newest princess. I am not so sure about this one either.  Disney does not always use the newest Princess the first year she is introduced.  Tangled came out in fall 2010, while she was the featured princess in 2012.  Tiana was the honor princess in 2011, while the Princess and the Frog move came out in 2009.  I think for the 5th anniversary, Disney will choose a classic princess.  That brings me to my last theory.

3)  I think they will choose Cinderella.  First, the castle in Walt Disney World is Cinderella's castle.  Also, Disney is re-releasing Cinderella this fall.  They love cross promotion.  They could also choose Sleeping Beauty since her color is pink.  There has not been a pink medal yet, so why not do it for the anniversary.  These are just my thoughts....They may be totally off and no where near what runDisney actually does--but its fun to speculate anyway.

All the princess medals so far, stolen for a FB friend.
What do you think runDisney will choose as the theme for the Disney Princess Half Marathon 2013?

A dream is a wish...

  2. I would say one of the classic Princesses too - Aurora, Cinderella or Snow White since it's the 5th. I have no idea, lol. I choose Rapunzel in the end - it was a huge toss up between her, Merida, and Belle. I figured since Belle is my all time fav, and I have a ton of BatB stuff, and I haven't seen Brave yet, that I'll go with Rapunzel.

  4. I registered and picked Aurora, which is my fav princess and also my fav color. I'm REALLY hoping for a pink medal ribbon and also a classic princess theme. I'm a traditinonalist at heart and one of the classic prinseses would be great in my opinion.

    1. I am very much a traditionalist too. I am all for the classics for the 5th anniversary.

  5. My dd said that Merida is not yet part of the official priness royal court. So, I don't think it will be BRave. I also think either Jasmine or Cinderella.

  6. Tangled is technically not part of the Disney Princess Court, or at least wasn't at the time of last years race so it could be Meridia... especially since they do have a meet and greet with her at Magic Kingdom.

I have yet to decide on if I'm going to do this race yet... I'm leaning towards yes, but I just have yet to make that final decision.

I think it's cool that you've been doing it every year though!

  7. Holy Cow, you're a perfect princess! I've never seen that before. Do you know if you get anything special yet?

Like you said, Disney LOVES cross-promoting and the 5k's theme is always themed by either a movie coming out or a new ride opening. I think you might be on track with Cinderella. . . Is Brave scheduled to be released on video around then?

Haven't see the Jasmine ads yet, but I don't think they have much to do with it.

Hope to see you there. This is a definite on my list.

  8. If they follow the same pattern as they do for the other Disney races, the medal this year will be completely different since it's the 5th anniversary...there may not even be a particular Princess represented. The pattern usually goes: year 1-4 are the same basic medal (just color changes to lanyard (and stones for Princess race), year 5 is commemorative for the anniversary, 6-9 new medal design (lanyard color changes year to year), year 10 commemorative for the anniversary...etc. I think I read on the Disney Parks Blog a few days ago that the commemorative medal design was in the works. I'm kind of glad it's time to change it up...the Princess 2011 medal was my first ever so I definitely cherish it, but the design of it doesn't hold a candle to the other runDisney medals I have hanging next to it! I hope to be "wow'd" this time! The medal for the Tinker Bell half is spectacular!!!!

  9. This will be the first half and first Run Disney event for my sister and I. We're both so excited. She chose Merida and I chose Belle. It should be a great experience. I dont have any other race medals yet to compare it to, so I'll love it no matter what. I can't wait!

  10. i'm so undecided!!! i would love to run the princess half (i've never registered for a disney run before), but with two kids (one in 1st grade, the other less than a year) it would be too much to try to get there and back in two days. my husband told me to register and make it a mini-getaway for myself but i feel completely selfish doing that. although i haven't ruled it out yet :)

is there a new beauty and the beast castle open there? we were at disney last summer and i thought someone said they were in the middle of construction for it.
