What Inspires You?

Someone has recently told me that my blog inspires them. That got me thinking…what inspires me? Well, there is quite a list. The first thing on my list is my daughter. Her name is Andrea and she is almost two. These past two years have not been easy for her. She was born more than three months early and weight about a pound and a half. After what was probably a medical error prior to heart surgery, she required a trach, a breathing tube that is placed in her neck. After 144 long days, she got to come home! She is such a fighter! Andrea has been very sick a few times, but always pulls through. I figure, if she can fight as hard as she has, so can I.

I also have a seven year old son, Nathan. I want to be healthy for my kids. We are a Disney loving family. We like to go a few times a year. I want to be able to keep up with them for many years to come.

On a smaller, more fun scale, the race really inspires me. Even though my kids are the most important thing in the world to me, I need a specific event to work toward. I needed a specific date to count down to. I love Disney, and I love being a princess, so this event is perfect for me. When I am in the middle of a tough workout, I think of the race and how incredible it will feel to cross that finish line and get my medal.

What inspires you? What are the big things and the little. Is it what you are working toward? Is it what you are leaving behind? Please comment below and let me know. I would love to hear from you.

  2. Hi Amy, like you I will also run the race next year.
I loved your story and this phrase was very touching and says a lot to me "if she can fight as hard as she has, so can I."

2010 was a pretty tough year on me (health, family, relationships) and it seemed that everytime I was 'recovering' something else would happen to take me down again.
I started running in october when i moved to a place closer to my job (which gave me time to enroll on a gym)and at first I think I started my running classes because i literally wanted to run away lol. The beginning was tough, but whenever I though about giving up I remebered all the pain I experienced during the year and that thought made me keep running! Now, my self esteem went up, my body completely changed and I am a much healthier and happier person in contrl of my life.
I have always loved Disney and this race is really giving me motivation to "stretch" my miles each day.

I wish you all the best on your quest.

  4. Hi Amy,

just found your blog on the DIS boards - I am newbie runner as well and we live right near Hershey - it would be great to have training support close to home - I have several 5k's planned for this Spring. My DD and I plan on doing a 1/2 marathon in Erie in July, then the Hershey 1/2 in October, the WDW 1/2 in January, finishing my goal at the Princess 1/2 in February.

My email address is dthogue5@verizon.net if you want to get in toucjh with me - I will also reply to your post on the Princess Marathon thread!
